Scope: this policy covers the UltraWall application. Processing that happens when you use this website — hosting and the contact form — is described separately in the website privacy notice.

Overview

UltraWall is a desktop wallpaper management application that operates entirely offline on your local device. Your privacy is important to us, and this policy explains how we handle your information.

Developer Collection and Transmission

UltraWall does not collect or transmit your images, file paths, settings, monitor information, or usage activity to thinkertankApps or any external server.

UltraWall processes images and related file and monitor information locally to provide its wallpaper features. Specifically, UltraWall:

  • Does NOT connect to the internet
  • Does NOT send application data to external servers
  • Does NOT use analytics, advertising, or tracking services
  • Does NOT collect usage statistics
  • Does NOT require an UltraWall account or registration
  • Processes imported images and their metadata entirely on your device

Local Data Storage

UltraWall may store the following data locally on your device only:

  • Application settings, including scaling preferences, Undo retention, and the last folder used by the image picker
  • Monitor layout configuration, including monitor device identifiers, display geometry, and saved monitor selections
  • Generated image cache, including processed JPEG wallpapers, access timestamps, size information, manifests, backups, and atomic-write staging files
  • Undo and recovery profiles, including timestamps, monitor identifiers, Windows wallpaper position, and absolute wallpaper file paths
  • Warning logs, which may contain timestamps, operation context, exception details, and local file paths
  • Temporary thumbnails and rendering files created while processing images
  • Applied wallpaper copies required to keep the Windows desktop valid after cache clearing or uninstall

Settings, cache, profiles, logs, backups, manifests, and temporary files are stored under %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Store for the Microsoft Store package and %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Steam for the Steam package. These channel-specific directories keep the two installations' disposable data separate. On first launch after upgrading an earlier unpackaged build, if the Steam channel contains no files, the Steam version stages known data from the former unsuffixed %LocalAppData%\UltraWall layout and atomically places that copy into its channel directory. If Steam data already exists, it is preserved and legacy state is not merged into it. The legacy copy is not immediately deleted. Applied wallpaper copies are shared under your Pictures folder in UltraWall Applied Wallpapers because Windows needs those files to continue displaying the current wallpaper after disposable application data is removed.

UltraWall also uses Windows wallpaper and file-picker services. Windows may retain wallpaper configuration, system-managed wallpaper copies, or picker history outside UltraWall's folders under Microsoft's own operating-system behavior.

Images You Provide

Any images you import into UltraWall:

  • Remain on your local device
  • Are not uploaded by UltraWall
  • Are not shared with any third parties
  • Are processed entirely on your computer
  • May have local metadata, including EXIF orientation, read to render the image correctly
  • Are not deleted or modified by Clear Local Data or any UltraWall cleanup operation

UltraWall rejects imports from its local product-data tree, including %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Store, %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Steam, and the former unsuffixed layout, so an imported original cannot be mistaken for app-owned data during cleanup. UltraWall itself does not upload files. If your Pictures folder is redirected to OneDrive or another synchronization provider, that provider may synchronize applied wallpaper copies under your own account and settings.

UltraWall creates generated wallpaper copies from imported images. During normal use, the applied-wallpaper folder may contain files needed by the current desktop and retained Undo/recovery profiles.

Clearing Local Data and Uninstalling

The in-app Clear Local Data command removes the current channel's UltraWall settings, generated cache, Undo/recovery profiles, logs, manifests, backups, and owned temporary files, then exits the application. It does not delete imported originals. Before deletion, UltraWall verifies the current Windows wallpaper paths and moves any active legacy cache wallpaper to the durable applied-wallpaper folder.

To avoid leaving Windows pointed at a missing file, Clear Local Data intentionally retains generated files still used by the current desktop in Pictures\UltraWall Applied Wallpapers. Other files owned by the current Store or Steam channel are removed when they are proven not to be current or retained Undo/recovery files. One channel does not prune files owned by the other channel. Unqualified generated files from pre-channel builds are also preserved because their channel ownership cannot be established safely. You may change your Windows wallpaper and then delete the remaining folder manually if you no longer want those generated copies.

Uninstall behavior depends on the distribution channel:

  • Steam builds: Steam uninstall removes UltraWall depot files but does not invoke UltraWall cleanup and does not remove %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Steam. Use Clear Local Data before uninstalling if you want that per-user state removed. UltraWall's Steam install script also does not remove the shared Windows App Runtime.
  • Microsoft Store/MSIX builds may have package-managed data removed by Windows. Use Clear Local Data before uninstall for deterministic cleanup of UltraWall-owned state. Applied files required by the current desktop remain in your Pictures folder.

Clear Local Data and any package-managed uninstall cleanup operate only for the current Windows user. They do not remove data created under another Windows account.

Third-Party Services

UltraWall itself does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, or cloud platforms. thinkertankApps receives no personal data from your use of the application.

However, the purchase and delivery of the Software may involve the collection and processing of certain personal information by the platform through which you purchase it. The public release channels are the Microsoft Store and Steam. Specifically:

  • Microsoft Store processes purchases made through the Microsoft Store platform, including payment processing, refunds, license validation, and download access. A Microsoft account is required by Microsoft to make a purchase. Please review Microsoft's Privacy Statement for details.
  • Steam (operated by Valve Corporation, with servers located in the United States) processes purchases made through the Steam platform, including payment processing, refunds, and access to the Software through your Steam library. A Steam account is required by Valve to make a purchase. Please review Valve's Privacy Policy to understand how your information is handled at the time of purchase.

Your purchase, refund, and license or download access are managed entirely by the platform of purchase under its own privacy policy. thinkertankApps does not receive your payment information.

thinkertankApps remains accountable for personal information transferred to these partners for processing, in accordance with the Accountability Principle under PIPEDA (Principle 4.1.3).

Personal Information Related to Purchases and Support

In connection with purchasing the Software or requesting technical support, certain information may be collected, including:

  • Your email address, if you contact us directly, in order to respond to your inquiry
  • Your support request, including the message, purchase channel, Windows and UltraWall versions, reported error, and reproduction steps you choose to provide
  • Screenshots or log excerpts that you voluntarily provide. These may contain local file paths or other personal information, so review and redact unrelated information before sending them
  • Your transaction data, processed by the Microsoft Store or Steam depending on the platform used

This information is used solely to respond to your request, diagnose the reported problem, administer the associated purchase where applicable, and meet legal obligations. It is never sold or shared for commercial purposes.

Privacy Officer

In accordance with applicable Canadian privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Law 25, L.Q. 2021, c. 25), thinkertankApps designates its founder as the Privacy Officer responsible for the organization's compliance with privacy obligations.

Your Rights

Under applicable privacy legislation, including PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual constraints
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for Quebec residents, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec

Data Retention

Personal information associated with your purchases and support requests, including voluntarily submitted screenshots or log excerpts, is retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law.

Local application data is retained as follows:

  • The generated cache is limited to 1 GiB and 50 final images, whichever limit is reached first, and uses least-recently-used cleanup while protecting active, current, and retained Undo files.
  • Undo profile retention is configurable from 1 to 50 profiles and defaults to 8. Emergency recovery data may remain until it is consumed or local data is cleared.
  • Warning logs remain until Clear Local Data or applicable Windows package-managed cleanup removes them. Steam uninstall alone retains them under %LocalAppData%\UltraWall\Steam.
  • Known data copied from the former unpackaged layout remains in that legacy location until the Steam version successfully runs Clear Local Data; cleanup checks and preserves any active legacy cache wallpaper before removing it.
  • Applied wallpaper files remain while referenced by the current desktop or retained recovery state. Cleanup preserves files required by the current desktop.

Privacy by Default

UltraWall is designed to operate without data collection, without network connectivity, and without user accounts. No additional configuration is required to benefit from the maximum level of privacy protection.

Children's Privacy

UltraWall does not collect any data from any users, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, we will revise the "Revised" date above. Continued use of the application after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
